Madison Fine Wine Auction First Sale Reaches HK$23 million
Madison Fine Wine Auction (MFWA) realized sales in excess of HK$23 million against a hammer price estimate of HK$17,000,000- HK$22,000,000.
The sale took place in Hong Kong on Saturday, 15 December 2018, featuring 322 lots of meticulously authenticated wines sourced from highly respected collectors. 103 of the lots hammered at or above the high estimate.
“We are very pleased with the performance of our first auction, with healthy bidding activity all the way through to the end of the sale, which I believe was encouraged by a combination of highly attractive lots and buyer-friendly commissions,” said CEO, Gabriel Suk.
The Bordeaux and Burgundy-focused sale featured 57 First Growth lots, 49 lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and 18 lots from Domaine Leroy.
Top lots of the sale hailed from Burgundy; the region bringing in over HK$15 million overall, and DRC sales totaling HK$10,6 million. With 2 lots selling at 129% and 114% above the high estimate, Clos de Tart Monopole 2001 was the best performing wine of the day. Rhône wines also performed well with 2007 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in original wooden case, selling at 67% above the high estimate.
Active online bidding via MFWA’s web platform and app provided strong competition to the crowded group of bidders in the room.
